A recent survey was conducted upon ten top power lifters... They were asked to share one tip for increasing bench press numbers... Here are their exact answers, word-for-word... “Self-evaluation is the key to breaking current plateaus – Continually evaluate what you’re doing” “Eat more, more, more.” “Vary your rep range.” “Sleep more.” “Add a spotter – absolutely essential.” “Videotape your lifts.” “Ask an expert for help. Meet up with the biggest, best power lifter in your gym and ask him for tips, or to evaluate your lifting style and training/nutrition regimen.” “Form alone can bump you 20-40 pounds. Fix your form.” “Try using bands and chains to increase speed.” “Use assistance exercises to bring up your weak points (tris, delts, upper back….).” “Use board presses and chains.” “Come up on your trap by squeezing your shoulder blades together and push you belly out to shorten the distance of the push.” “Drop all chest and triceps exercises – instead, train primarily bench press and versions of the bench press... Might want to throw in dips every once in awhile... The idea is: You becomes good at what you do (train).” Some of this might be of tremendous benefit to you..Others might not help you in any way... These responses do represent the beliefs of the top power lifters in the world... Good luck with breaking the plateau and growing your own bench press numbers!
