Just the fact that you’re taking AAS will naturally increase protein uptake and create positive nitrogen balance within your body, so you shouldn’t be losing muscle at night or any other time. However, I would still get as much pure protein as you can during all times of the day and night. I know many people who set their alarm clock during the night, twice, in order to get up and have pure protein shakes. If you’re trying to achieve large, lean mass gains, this is a great thing to do if you can be sure to get back to sleep. Sleep is probably second in importance to quality protein. Don’t ever skimp on it, despite the fact that AAS cycles create a situation where making mistakes is almost impossible. Ideally, try to get about 25 grams of pure protein right before bed. Add to that about 20 grams of carbs and about 5 grams of fat (like flax seed oil) and make a shake out of it. Or, you could eat things like cottage cheese and peanut butter, egg whites with one yolk,a small steak or some boiled white fish. It fills you up enough that you don’t go to bed hungry and you aren’t stuffed with any of these. But, it really depends on your goals at the time. Eating some carbs before bed is okay (20 grams or less) even if you’re dieting, provided they aren’t sugar carbs. Adding a little oatmeal to egg whites and making a pancake out of it is a great way to do just that...
