Almost every day someone asks me what ab work to do to help them get "six pack" abs. Geting defined enough to see your abs is mostly dependent on your diet... NOT your workout program. In fact, here's what Vince Gironda, the Iron Guru and trainer of numerous champions said: "Definition, I have always maintained, is 85% nutrition. The biggest problem is poor metabolism. You are storing fat instead of burning it." Here's what Vince says constitutes a proper definition diet: "To begin with, all carbohydrates must be removed from a maximum definition diet. This means only raw vegetables and salad greens, which are non-concentrated carbohydrates. The only milk products that can be used are butter and cream. Any kind of meat, fish, fowl and eggs are the only foods permissible. You must, however, eat some carbohydrates every four or five days, because otherwise you will smooth out and veins and cuts will disappear. You will also find that you are not getting the pump you should and your strength will decrease. This is because a zero carbohydrate diet drains all the stored glycogen from the liver and only carbohydrates replenish it. I personally use fats for a source of energy, which lasts for six hours. This high-protein diet may make you nervous because of the phosphorous in the meat. That is why I suggest you keep your calcium tablets high. Concentrated carbohydrate meal (only one every 72 hours) must not include any protein." There you have it... a proven plan from a trainer of champions for achieving maximum definition. All the crunches and leg lifts in the world won't give you six-pack abs if yu're not eating and supplementing correctly for maximum definition.
